What goes into preparing for an art show

For those who don’t know my story, I quit my job in January of 2015 to go full-time with photography.  I had 5 months to prepare for a summer filled with art shows!  Now the week before my very first fine art show is here and I’m feeling great about it.  It has been months of preparation that have lead up to this point. First, it was securing studio space for me to focus and have a place to hang my wonderful photography while not at shows or exhibits.  Then it was figuring out and applying for shows.  Once you submit  your application, it’s the waiting game for acceptance or rejection.  While waiting, I continued preparing to make my booth feel like a gallery.  This involved lots of research!  I needed to buy a good sturdy tent, figuring out signage, buy a dolly, make tent weights, order prints and package them and more.  Oh and in the meantime I also  continued to take photographs for my growing collection. I made a goal to attend at least 5 art shows.  I was accepted to over 75% of the art shows I applied for which made me feel great.  They are all juried shows and photography is a very competitive category.  The hard decision was deciding which ones to attend and which to turn down.  So with 8 shows on the calendar, I would say I have surpassed my goal.  Now I hope all the shows are a success and I continue to share my passion for photography.  It has already been a huge learning curve and I’m sure I will continue to learn more as I go through the summer. See my summer art festival schedule here. But for now, I can’t wait to take this gallery on the road!  I’m ready and feeling great.  Which show will you be attending to see my traveling gallery and check out my photography?  Is there a show you’d like to see my attend as an artist?
