Yellowstone National Park – March 1, 1872

Wishing a wonderful birthday to our first great national park, Yellowstone National Park!  What an amazing place this is.  I am so fortunate to have been here 4 times in the last 5 years!  The scenery any season is just spectacular.  The hiking is great.  Wildlife are abundant and sometimes even cause traffic jams.  You know what I’m talking if you’ve been to the park.  Any animal near or perhaps even on the road will cause a line up of cars spectating.  This can be fun at times and frustrating if you are trying to get to a particular place.

This is my favorite shot of the steamy Mammoth Hot Springs formations in Yellowstone. I absolutely love the color, the steam and the snow. This photo is an HDR to capture the feel of the mineral formations.

I have been in both summer and winter.  My favorite time to visit so far is winter.  I like the peace and quiet.  I love the snowy landscape scenery and I feel the wildlife can be spotted easier.  My favorite about winter in the park is the solitude.  There are remarkably less visitors versus summer and it makes the park more enjoyable.  Granted, if you get out on the trails during any season you will be away from many of the tourists and be able to enjoy the beauty, grandness and peaceful nature of Yellowstone National Park. I have yet to go in spring or fall, but I look forward to getting there for those seasons some time soon.  The springs offers the babies and the fall offers the beautiful colors.  So much to see and only so much time.  Learn more from the National Park Service. The park is magnificent and I encourage all to visit, enjoy and respect nature and wildlife.  To see more about the wildlife I have photographed visit another post.  Want to visit in winter?  Have you been?  What’s your favorite part of the park?
Who will win the showdown - elk or bison??? The bison won out in this case. The elk decided it was best to enjoy grass just a little further away from this guy and his herd.
