I recently spent a long weekend enjoying the beauty of Crested Butte, one of my favorite towns in Colorado. The town is great with little shops and lots of restaurants, but the surrounding natural area is amazing! Prepare to be wowed no matter which way you drive. Most of the roads turn to dirt and 4WD within a few miles from leaving town, so be prepared. However, you won’t be disappointed no matter which one you take. There are mountains, meadows, rivers, flowers, aspen forests, etc. All of it waiting to be explored and enjoyed. Crested Butte calls itself the wildflower capital of Colorado and I have to agree the flowers are great. If you want to see the best flowers, you should plan on hiking or mountain biking to see the phenomenal alpine meadows. Get a map and explore the trails! Explore nature’s playground and all the beauty she offers. A few suggestions – drive Kebler Pass, Ohio Pass and down Gothic Rd. You’ll find plenty of camping, hiking and mountain biking trails along any of them. Plus, the scenery will be gorgeous. If you go, let me know what you find. Do you have a favorite trail in Crested Butte? I’m not sure I can pick just one! sunset with a view wildflowers, mountains and expressive sky sunrise with the river, mountains and surrounding natural beauty wildflower covered hillside with aspens
