Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships 2013

Have you ever seen amazing sculptures carved out of snow???!?!?  The 2013 Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships did not disappoint.  Unfortunately, 2 of the sculptures didn’t make it to judging because it is too warm up in Breckenridge!  The ones that did make it were quite amazing.  There were 15 sculptures total, made and designed by teams from 14 countries around the world.  The teams carve 20-ton, 12-foot-tall blocks of snow without the use of power tools, internal support structures or colorants.  The artists sculpted January 22-26, 2013 and the awards ceremony took place Sunday January 27 in the afternoon.  At night the sculptures are illuminated by LED lights which make them come to life!  It was really amazing to see the difference between daylight and night. I arrived at the exact time of the end of the award ceremony.  To my excitement the winners were walking around, some posing, with their medals and sculptures.  It was great to see the artists behind the work and see their smiling faces.
