Adventures of Dottie, the sock monkey: Raspberry Picking

Adventures of Dottie, the sock monkey: Raspberry Picking

Guess what I got to do!?!?!  You got it – raspberry picking!  I went to a local, organic farm called Hoot ‘n’ Howl.  It is located on Jay Rd near 63rd.  You get to go pick as many raspberries as you can find or can eat.  Definitely must be respectful as you are on a couple’s beautiful property and farm.  They welcome you through their backyard to the fields.  Please be careful as you go through the yard, check out the chickens and then go on back towards the raspberry bushes.  The best part is that they have golden and red raspberries.  I also love that they are organic.  Yay for no pesticides.  I got to see lots and lots of grasshoppers all over the plants.  That was really fun because they were all so different and colorful. DSC_0016A little advice for picking: They fall all so easily when they are ripe.  If they don’t fall all easily, don’t pick them!  Once you have as many or as few as you’d like, you take them out front where they have a scale to weight them.  Don’t forget your own container(s) to pick them and take them home in.  You pay for what you picked on the honor system at $.40/oz.  Not a bad price for organic, delicious and local raspberries.  Yum!
