What a beauty of a day! Can’t really beat this weather for March! I’m waiting for the next storm to hit as I know winter has totally left us in Colorado just yet. In the meantime, I’m out enjoying as much as I can. Today I got tired of looking out the window at the sunshine and jumped in my car with my two dogs to go on an adventure. We explored an off leash dog park in Evergreen, Elk Meadows. I will say that it is a nice park with a great fenced in area alongside an open area with trails to walk your dog(s) off leash. Your dogs must be in voice and sight control at all times which my two pups are pretty good about. My only complaint with the off leash trails was the length. I would say it wasn’t even a mile of trail! Neither my dog nor I are ready to quit after that short a walk. On the bright side, the trails had nice views and beautiful new benches to sit and take in the scenery. Since we were all ready for more hiking, we crossed the street into Elk Meadow Open Space and continued our journey there. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and vistas. The trail was a bit muddy in spots, covered in snow in others and completely dry elsewhere. I didn’t have any trouble avoiding the worst of the mud. By the end of our hiking journey we did 4 miles on the Meadow View, Elk Ridge and Sleepy “S” Trails. A good time was had by all, but the best was yet to come! I decided to take the scenic route home which in my book usually ends up being fun with beautiful vistas. Well, this route didn’t disappoint. First, there were the deer on the side of the road. There was even a young deer grazing. Then came the beautiful mountain vistas. Then a real treat and surprise…a RED FOX! I loved the red fox. It was standing on a rock for a while looking around. Then it decided to scurry away. I captured this moment. I was really happy after seeing this little guy and then I turn to see this beautiful meadow covered in elk! I mean hundreds of elk were there. Another stunning scene which helped to make my afternoon really great and exciting. I also enjoyed this old barn on the meadow with the mountain vistas. Such beautiful scenery we have here in Colorado! I have to say it never gets old. Until the next fox sighting. Ok…maybe something else exciting will happen next time as I don’t think I’ll see another red fox anytime soon.
