What a beautiful spring day it was for a stroll through a working farm and nature preserve. The place is called Carolyn Holmberg Preserve at Rock Creek Farm and is tucked away off Dillon Rd and 104th in Broomfield. It has been a working farm since the 1870s! Today it is owned by Boulder County and leased to a farm, Rock Creek Farm. After going down a short dirt road off Dillon Road, you come to a small parking lot with picnic tables, trash cans and even a vault toilet. This place seems out of place among the urban life that surrounds it which makes it that much more tranquil. I head off on the trail which starts at Stearns Lake. The lake offers fishing and bird watching. The trail is easy – easy enough for a wheel chair and not all that long in length. But it makes up for it in beauty and the nature that surrounds. I thoroughly enjoyed the mountain vistas and on this particular day the farmer was at work tilling the soil with his tractor. I spotted and heard prairie dogs and enjoyed the peace that nature offers. I also enjoyed finding things and scenes to capture.
