This blog is not for the faint at heart. However, if you are a true nature lover, then you’ll find this as amazing as I did! Driving home from Yellowstone just a few weeks ago, I spotted this eagle enjoying a meal from road kill. The car was immediately turned around and pulled over to photograph and observe this beautiful event. I have NEVER been this close to an eagle. So we did not scare the eagle away, none of us stepped out of the vehicle. We simply watched in amazement from the windows. We were able to get lots of photographs just through the open windows. It is a truly beautiful sight to see nature in action. I have always loved watching nature shows on PBS and I religiously read National Geographic. The survival of animals in all terrains, extreme weather conditions and with health simply awes me. Watching this sight makes you realize how easy life really is in the first world. All a human needs to do these days to eat is step inside a grocery store. I realize that not all humans have access to food on a daily basis or have it so easy as to walk into a fully stocked grocery store. This makes me think back to days before refrigerators and grocery stores; days when you had to kill, skin and cut up your own food. Life wasn’t always this easy for us first world humans. On this day this eagle got a treat – an EASY meal! This bald eagle entertained us for almost a half hour. I loved seeing the blood on his head and the look he had in his eye. The magpies hanging around were waiting for the eagle to finish and move on. They wanted their turn, but they very carefully stood aside the bigger eagle. I guess this completes the circle of life for me. It puts to use food that was already killed and shows you that nature isn’t wasteful. May you some day be lucky to spot an eagle. Remember do NOT approach the eagle to frighten it! However, do enjoy the beauty of it and admire it as much as you like.
